Meet Zach Jayne, the dynamic cross-country skier who has been making waves both nationally and internationally. Hailing from Ventura, California, Zach’s journey in the world of cross-country skiing is nothing short of remarkable.

Collegiate Success at the University of Utah:

Zach currently wears the colors of the University of Utah as a key member of their cross-country skiing team. However, his collegiate journey began at the College of St. Scholastica in 2023, where he demonstrated his prowess as an NCAA Championships qualifier. During this season, Zach secured an impressive five top-five finishes and three podiums in the CCSA. His excellence reached its peak as he became the NCAA Central Region Champion in the 20K classic and clinched the third spot in the 10K freestyle. Notably, he also achieved two top-15 finishes in the SuperTour during the 2022-23 season.

Rising Star of the 2024 Season:

The 2024 season has seen Zach already achieving notable results, with five top-15 finishes in the SuperTour – the prestigious continental cup for North America. Additionally, he boasts two junior victories and numerous podiums, solidifying his status as a rising star in the world of cross-country skiing. Zach’s achievements have earned him a spot to represent the United States in the Junior World Championships in Slovenia, marking the beginning of his exciting journey racing overseas.

Early Years and High School Triumphs:

Before stepping into the collegiate arena, Zach honed his skills with the Mt. Bachelor Ski Education Foundation. In 2022, he was crowned the Oregon High School state champion in both classic and skate disciplines, showcasing his dominance on the high school stage.

Personal Background:

Born to Gerald and Merry in Ventura, California, Zach’s passion for skiing ignited at the age of 12, and he embraced competitive racing at the age of 14. The athletic genes run strong in his family, with his father being a former cross-country and track runner at Massachusetts, and his mother excelling in track at Sonoma State. Beyond the ski trails, Zach finds joy in a variety of outdoor activities and has a knack for cooking.

 

Choosing the U:

Reflecting on his journey, Zach shares, “Initially, I was unsure if I was good enough to ski collegiately, but I have progressed a lot in a short period of time. The Utah Ski Team is the best in the U.S.; for them to believe in me and my potential, there was no other team for me.”
