Seattle Gummy Company today announced that Dr. Connie Wan was recognized for her contributions as a founding attorney of the USPTO Patent Pro Bono Program in Washington State.
The Washington Patent Pro Bono Program, sponsored by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and hosted by Seattle University School of Law, was established to expand access to the U.S. patent system for financially under-resourced inventors and entrepreneurs. The program connects eligible inventors with qualified patent professionals and helps ensure that access to patent protection is not determined solely by an inventor’s financial resources.
Dr. Wan played a significant role in the establishment and development of the Washington program. She was instrumental in identifying and securing an institutional home for the program, assisting with its organizational formation and implementation, and supporting the development of its operational framework.
Dr. Wan also served as the program’s Managing Attorney, helping oversee the program and its efforts to connect qualified inventors with patent legal assistance.
Her contributions helped establish a durable resource for Washington innovators seeking meaningful access to the patent system and professional intellectual property counsel.
“Access to the patent system is an important part of supporting innovation,” said Dr. Wan. “Independent inventors and entrepreneurs should have a meaningful opportunity to protect valuable ideas, regardless of their financial circumstances. The September 11, 2026 recognition acknowledges Dr. Wan’s contributions to the development of the Washington Patent Pro Bono Program and her broader commitment to innovation, intellectual property education, and service to the inventor community.
