Uncontrolled inflammation Leads to many Diseases
Inflammation occurs naturally in the body, but when it goes wrong or goes on too long, it can trigger disease processes. Uncontrolled inflammation plays a role in many diseases, including accelerated aging, cancer, heart disease, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. Researches have shown that low grade persistent inflammation is a hallmark of metabolism syndrome.
Polyphenols and healthy aging
A study by the University of Liverpool’s Institute of Aging and Chronic Disease suggests that diets rich in fruits and vegetables, which contain polyphenols, protect against age-related inflammation and chronic diseases. Polyphenols are a class of chemical compounds abundant in our diet. Because of their high conjugated aromatic structure, many polyphenols exhibit potent antioxidant activities including catechins from green tea polyphenol, isorhamnetin from red onion, resveratrol from grapeseeds, curcumin from tumeric and vanillic acid from vanillin.
Multiple studies have suggested polyphenols’ role in the prevention of degenerative diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. The health effects of polyphenols highly depend on the amount consumed and on their bioavailability.
Polyphenols’ Prevents Degenerative Diseases
The results of this University of Liverpool study suggest that polyphenols derived from onions, turmeric, red grapes, green tea and acai berries may help reduce the release of pro-inflammatory mediators in people at risk of chronic inflammation.
